Opportunities to get Involved
There are many opportunities to become involved in the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery. Through volunteering and meeting participation to serving on committees and writing articles for our biannual newsletter and website. We have the Young Microsurgeons Group which consists of our younger members who have been in practice eight or less years. The specifics of the opportunites are noted in this section of the website. Here are some additional ways members can become involved in the organization.
Governance
Leadership Positions
Every September members recieve an e-notification that the ASRM is calling for member recommendations for leadership positions. Please visit this section of the website during that time for open position notifications and recommendation process.
Council Member-in-Training
The Council Member-in-Training is an official position on the Council without voting rights. This positions holds a term of one year. This position is to provide leadership experience and develop a young member into a future leader of the organization.
To qualify the one must be a resident that is a current ASRM Candidate member or in the process of becoming a member, in the final two years of residency training and must be a resident or fellow during the entire tenure of position which is one year. The Council Member-in-Training is required to attend all council meetings which occur during the annual meeting in January (two annual meetings during tenure) and in July in Chicago, Illinois. The ASRM does cover the travel and housing expenses related to the meeting in July.
If you are interested in serving in this position, meet the noted requirements and have been granted time to attend the required council meetings please complete the application. Applications are due NOVEMBER 15.

Young Microsurgeons Group
As a young member of the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery you are welcome to participate in the YMG and we hope that you do. The mission of the YMG is to enhance the voice and representation of younger members in the society; to support new members in their efforts to provide the highest quality patient care by upholding and advancing the sub-specialty of microsurgery and complex reconstruction through education, research and professional activity. In addition our goal is to bridge the gap between younger and established plastic surgeons while acting as a resource for networking, sharing of fresh ideas, political advocacy, leadership, and development. The YMG consists of ASRM members that have been in practice for eight or less years.
